BookSmart by Sarah (“we,” “our,” or “us”) provides professional bookkeeping services and T1 Personal Income Tax preparation. Because these services involve time, expertise, and customized work, our refund practices follow Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act and general service‑contract principles.
This Refund Policy explains when refunds may be issued and the conditions that apply.
Refund Policy - the basics
1. Services Are Non‑Refundable Once Work Has Begun
Bookkeeping and tax preparation services are customized to each client. For this reason:
• Fees are non‑refundable once work has started, including document review, data entry, analysis, or tax preparation.
• Time spent on partially completed work is billable, even if the client chooses not to proceed.
This aligns with Ontario’s rules for service contracts where work has already been performed.
2. Refunds Before Work Begins
A refund may be issued if:
• No work has started,
• No documents have been reviewed, and
• No time has been spent on the file.
In these cases, any prepaid fees may be refunded minus administrative charges, if applicable.
3. Tax Preparation Accuracy Guarantee
We stand behind the accuracy of our T1 Personal Income Tax preparation. If an error is made due to our oversight:
• We will correct the return at no additional charge.
• Refunds are not issued for tax preparation services, but we will take reasonable steps to resolve the issue.
If the error results from incomplete, inaccurate, or omitted information provided by the client, the client is responsible for any resulting CRA penalties or interest.
4. Deposits and Retainers
Some services may require a deposit or retainer. These are:
• Applied toward the final invoice,
• Non‑refundable once work has begun,
• Refundable only if no work has started.
5. Cancellation Policy
Clients may cancel services at any time. However:
• Fees for work already completed remain payable,
• Any outstanding invoices must be settled before documents or final reports are released.
6. No Guarantee of Financial Outcomes
Refunds are not provided based on:
• CRA processing times,
• Tax refund amounts,
• Business performance,
• Financial outcomes resulting from bookkeeping or tax filings.
Our services focus on accuracy and compliance, not financial results.
